Thalaivar Rajinikanth meets DMK supremo Karunanidhi and Stalin

Rajinikanth met DMK supremo Karunanidhi at his residence in Chennai today, raising the speculation of forming a new alliance with DMK. Stalin was seen welcoming thalaivar at the residence. Karunanidhi is the first political personality Rajinikanth has met after announcing his decision to enter into mainstream politics.

When asked about his meeting with Karunanidhi, Rajinikanth told the media, "He is the senior-most politician in the country. I respect him a lot. We have a very good friendship. I took his blessings as I am entering politics. I am feeling very happy after meeting him." He denied saying anything to Stalin, who said that Rajinikanth had asked Karunanidhi for his blessings to start a party.

"There are some people who think that by using Rajinikanth they can destroy the Dravidian party in Tamil Nadu, but that will never happen. I'll let you know about supporting Rajinikanth during the elections," Stalin told the media.

He announced his political debut on Sunday. Within days, thousands have signed up to be part of his new movement on a website and a mobile app.

The Kollywood legend, who has said he'll "push for spiritual politics without caste or religious leanings," intends to contest in the next Tamil Nadu assembly election.

Rajinikanth has always maintained a cordial relationship with Karunanidhi unlike Amma and has shown his support to DMK many times in the past.  A DMK leader recalled how Prime Minister Narendra Modi also made a surprise visit to Karunanidhi recently. "Everyone has realised the growing weakness of the AIADMK government," the DMK leader said.

A DMK source said that ideologies could be different, but state-Centre relationship could be cordial if the DMK and the BJP are on the same wavelength. The BJP, which has been unable to make inroads into Tamil Nadu, is also trying to woo Rajinikanth, who has called for "a revolution" in the state. If the game changes in the state, the BJP could rely more on a DMK-Rajinikanth 'alliance' than TTV Dhinakaran, a political analyst said.

Xiaomi launching Redmi 5A at Rs 4999 - Limited Offer

The "Baap" of all the cheapest offerings is coming from Xiaomi in India and the price will be Rs 4,999. This is an introductory offer price only for the first 50 lakh units. The phone will have a starting price of Rs 5,999 after the scheme expires.

The Redmi devices have already registered over 10 lakh buyers for the device across Flipkart and Xiaomi's official website. The company will also sell the device from brick and mortar stores in the country. The offline retail partners comprise Sangeetha, Poorvika, UniverCell, E-Zone and more.

The company has introduced an 8-day battery life with the new Redmi 5A. Xiaomi claims that 3000mAh battery on the Redmi 5A is good for a standby time of 8 days, or 7 hours of video playback. One of the biggest gripe with Xiaomi devices this year has been the hybrid SIM slot. Xiaomi has taken care of it with the Redmi 5A, giving it a dedicated microSD card slot apart from the dualSIM slots.

As earlier indications suggested, Xiaomi redmi 5A will be 'Made in India' and will have some changes as compared to the version sold in China. Launched in October earlier this year, the Chinese model of the sports a hybrid SIM tray, where the Redmi 5A will ship with a dual SIM slots and a dedicated microSD card slot. Additionaly, Xiaomi is bringing a 3GB RAM/32GB ROM variant to India which is not available in China.

Processor

The Redmi 5A is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core chipset clocked at 1.4GHz. The device comes in two options, one with 2GB RAM, 16GB ROM, and another with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. The chipset will also be paired with Adreno 308 GPU.

Design

When it comes to design, the device looks similar to the previous iteration. However, even this time the company has used polycarbonate that was used in the Xiaomi Redmi 4A. Similar to other current generation Redmi phones, the antenna-lines have been pushed to the edges of the device, giving it a cleaner look altogether.

Similar to the previous iteration Xiaomi Redmi 4A, the company will be skipping on the fingerprint sensor for this budget oriented Redmi 5A.

Camera

The rear camera on the Redmi 5A sports a 13Megapixel module with an aperture of f/2.2. The camera comes with common features like HDR mode, panorama mode and burst mode. For the front camera, Xiaomi used a 5Megapixel sensor with an f/2.0 aperture.

Display

Redmi 5A features a 5-inch display with a resolution of 1280x720. The IPS LCD panel on the Redmi 5A is a multitouch display with a pixel density of 296ppi.

Connectivity

For connectivity, Xiaomi has placed a dual SIM tray which can either store two SIMs, along with a dedicated slot for a microSD card upto 128GB.  The device comes equipped with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The array of sensors on the device include an acccelerometer, a proximity sensor and ambient light sensor.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5A will also come with an IR blaster which can turn the device into a universal remote with the Mi Remote app.

Software

On the software front, the device will ship with MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat out of the box.

Battery

One of the biggest USP's of the previous Redmi 5A was its lasting battery and this time the company claims to have radically improved on that end. Xiaomi claims that the Redmi 5A can give a battery-life of eight days. Although the device sports a smaller 3000mAh battery, running MIUI9 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 helps the Xiaomi Redmi 5A with battery life.

Price

The Xiaomi Redmi 5A has been launched in Indian with a introductory price of Rs 4,999 for the  2GB/16GB variant, making it the cheapest smartphone Xiaomi markets in India. The offer stands for the first 50 lakh customers only. After the introductory scheme expires, Xiaomi will sell the device at Rs 5,999 for the base variant and Rs 6,999 for the higher 3GB/32GB variant.

Holiday pics of Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani In Sri Lanka

Tiger Shroff, 27, and Disha Patani, 25, have been rumoured to be dating for over a year now.
Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani celebrated the new year 2018 on the beautiful beaches of Sri Lanka. Both the stars have posted pictures from their Sri Lankan vacation on social media. A shirtless picture showing his well-toned body of Tiger is the Internet's favourite.

Disha in a white swimwear looks stunning and it is also being loved on social media by thousands of netizens. "Disha Patani, why you are so beautiful," commented a user on Disha's post.

They began shooting for Baaghi 2, their first film together, last September. They have earlier co-starred in Befikra, a music video.

Producer Sajid Nadiadwala earlier said, "When we did the look test of both of them together, we were convinced with their chemistry and about Disha being the perfect choice for the role."

Earlier, several media outlets reported that Tiger and Disha would be moving in together at the actresses' new apartment in Bandra. However, Tiger's parents Jackie Shroff and Ayesha denied such reports.

"I don't think he has any plans to move out. At least, he hasn't told me. Everyone finds a life partner, gets married and decides to settle down. If Tiger plans to move out and stay independently, I don't have any issues with it. But knowing my children, they won't do that," Jackie Shroff told mid-day.

Finance minister of india calls Bitcoin as Ponzi Scheme

A statement from Finance Ministry said there was a high risk of an investment bubble in crypto currencies of the kind seen in “ponzi schemes”. The Ministry cautioned people on the risks of investing in these currencies like Bitcoin, which are not regulated by the government, calling them “ponzi” schemes.

“There has been a phenomenal increase in recent times in the price of these ‘Currencies’ (VCs), including Bitcoin, in India and globally. The VCs don’t have any intrinsic value and are not backed by any kind of assets. The price of Bitcoin and other VCs therefore is entirely a matter of mere speculation resulting in spurt and volatility in their prices,” said the ministry said in a statement.

The statement said there was a real and heightened risk of an investment bubble in virtual currencies of the kind seen in “ponzi schemes”, which can result in sudden and prolonged crash, exposing investors, especially retail consumers, to losing their hard-earned money.

“Consumers need to be alert and extremely cautious as to avoid getting trapped in such Ponzi schemes,” it added.

Virtual currencies are stored in digital/electronic format, making them vulnerable to hacking, loss of password, malware attack etc., which may also result in permanent loss of money, the ministry said.

“As transactions of VCs are encrypted, they are also likely being used to carry out illegal/subversive activities, such as, terror funding, smuggling, drug trafficking and other money-laundering Acts,” it warned.

India has exchanges such as Zebpay, where users can buy and sell Bitcoins. Other forms of cryptocurrencies include ethereum and litecoin, which are yet to find prominence in India.

The finance ministry said that the users, holders and traders of virtual currencies have already been cautioned three times — December 2013, February 2017 and December 2017 — by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) about the potential financial, operational, legal, customer protection and security-related risks that they are exposing themselves to by investing in Bitcoins and others such currencies.

“The RBI has also clarified that it has not given any licence/ authorization to any entity/ company to operate such schemes or deal with Bitcoin or any virtual currency. The Government also makes it clear that VCs are not legal tender and such VCs do not have any regulatory permission or protection in India. The investors and other participants therefore deal with these VCs entirely at their risk and should best avoid participating therein,” it added.

The Income Tax Department had recently conducted survey operations at major Bitcoin exchanges across the country on alleged suspicion of tax evasion. They said various teams, under the command of the Bengaluru investigation wing, visited the premises of nine such exchanges in the country including in Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi and Gurugram.

Currently, the value of Bitcoin is around $13,000.

Rajinikanth enters politics - Thalaivar ready to be dalpati and contest in 2021 elections

Tamil superstar Rajinikanth on Sunday announced that he would float a political party that would practice "spiritual politics" and contest in all of the state's 234 constituencies in the next Assembly polls in 2021.

Announcing his decision at a large gathering at Sri Raghavendra Kalyana Mandapam in Chennai, Rajinikanth said his party will not be contesting in the local body elections as the time for that was less. He also said the decision to contest in the 2019 Parliamentary elections will be taken at an appropriate time.

This announcement ends the long-awaited suspense. Calling his entry as "compulsion of time", he categorically said that he was not entering politics for money or power, but to serve people and revive democratic values.

"If I was hungry for power, I would have entered politics in 1996", said Rajinikanth.

Rajinikanth urged his fans not to talk about politics or comment about other parties till his party is floated. He said the first task was to get many of his unregistered fan clubs registered with the parent body.

He said the politics in the country has gone very wrong. We are going to change the system, be transparent, spiritual-politics, said Rajinikanth. He appealed for cooperation and support from his fans.

Debut smartphone Flipkart Billion Capture+ - winner or loser

Billion Capture+ is the debut smartphone launched by flipkart. It looks ambitious to take on current players in the lower mid-range segment. Priced at Rs 10,999 for the 3GB + 32GB version and Rs 12,999 for the 4GB and 64GB variant, the handset will take on the likes of the Moto G5, Redmi Note 4 and Amazon's 10.or G, among others.
The design of this phone is almost the combination of Xiaomi's Redmi 4 and Mi A1. Flipkart's phone to a large extent borrows design cues from both the smartphones to some extent, which have become a sort of a gold standard in the budget segment. The Capture+ has an aluminium build, while the back has plastic on the top and bottom and a metal panel in the middle that feels smooth to the touch. Flipkart doesn't mention the plastic back, but once you hold the phone you'll find that the finish feels more plastic than premium. This makes it feel rather cheap, and the company could have provided a better metal finish like Xiaomi has with the Redmi Note 4. With that said, the Capture+ doesn't look unattractive, but it doesn't look inspiring either.

The Billion Capture+ does have sturdy build to it and the frame is pretty solid, but it is also a bit on the thicker side at 8.5mm. It's mostly comfortable to hold and use with one hand, but it can feel a little heavy at 176 grams. The edges around the back are slightly curved and don't seamlessly join the frame, but it does give a good grip when holding it. If you look around the frame, you'll find the volume controls and power button on the right, a dual hybrid SIM tray on the left, a 3.5mm headphone jack on the top and a USB Type-C port on the bottom with speaker grilles on either sides.

Display
The Capture+ features a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080x1920) display with bezels around it. I mention bezels because we're slowly moving towards edge-to-edge displays. While the trend started for high-end smartphones, we've seen 18:9 displays trickle down to budget phones like Micromax's Infinity and LG Q6 already. Next year, you can expect more phones to sport full-screen displays. The Capture+ has a traditional 16:9 screen, which is alright because there still a market for it and there will be for at least a few more years. But bezels aside, displays in general have improved in recent times, and Flipkart's phone leaves you wanting a little more.

Despite a full-HD display, the colours on screen are pretty dull and washed out. Moreover, the brightness levels aren't great and even at its maximum brightness, you will find it difficult to read the screen outdoors. A dull display may help increase battery life, but it really doesn't provide the best viewing experience, especially when watching videos. Moreover, you're going to want to keep the brightness level on maximum when watching videos or playing games to enjoy the experience, which will inevitably cause more battery drain. Overall, this isn't the brightest of sharpest display out there, which is a shame as its competitors like the Moto G5 and Redmi Note 4 do much better at producing crisp 1080p displays.

Performance and software

The Billion Capture+ is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor with Adreno 506 GPU and coupled with either 3GB or 4GB of RAM. The phone is decent at multitasking and is quite fast at opening and closing apps without any lag or stutters.

The phone runs on Android 7.1 Nougat and is powered by Smartron's AI smarts. Despite the company's promise of stock Android, the Billion Capture+ had a few too many pre-loaded apps, which will also disappoint many others. You get apps like Flipkart (obviously), Myntra, Ola, PhonePe, Microsoft's Office suite and tronX app to name a few. The latter is a Smartron-powered service that includes purchasable products, cloud storage and security features. We're seeing more and more budget smartphones including Amazon's 10.or range coming with stock Android that makes the Capture+ look heavy in comparison.

The fingerprint sensor on the rear isn't the fastest out there. It takes about 0.8 seconds to unlock which is quite slow and one expects a far snappier sensor in 2017 and at this price point. But the sensor is mostly accurate so there is some takeaway in that. The dual speakers on the bottom could have been more powerful.

Camera
One of the biggest highlights of the Billion Capture+ is its dual rear camera system that comprises of a pair of 13-megapixel sensors, one RGB and one Monochrome and with f2.0 aperture. Dual rear cameras have become somewhat of a standard this year with almost every other smartphone from budget to high-end now sporting a dual camera system. Flipkart says the phone offers impressive low-light shots, more light in each frame and DSLR-like bokeh effects, among other things. It also comes with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.

To be honest, the dual cameras were largely disappointing. Outdoor shots under bright sunlight lets in too much light and the images look overexposed. The reds and greens were too bright and lacked accuracy. The cameras also have a hard time focusing on the subject and you'll likely capture a few hazy shots before one really clear image. The images also lack detailing so I wouldn't suggest zooming in on them or seeing them on a display bigger than 5.5-inch. SInce the sensors let in a lot of light, it works better in low-light conditions.

The Portrait Mode was pretty underwhelming as well. The subject would look artificially laid on a blurred background, which makes it look photoshopped rather than seem like a natural depth of field image. This is probably because the bokehs generated rely on software, which isn't great at differentiating the subject from the background. You'll find that the subject will have heavy blurring around the edges or look cut out and artificially  pasted on the background. There is a Supernight mode that you can use to capture low-light shots as it smoothes out the photos via software and removes a lot of noise. I found the feature to be pretty good and prefered using the mode almost always for low-light photography.

Front camera disappoints as well, but perhaps not as much as the primary cameras. The 8-megapixel sensor looks good on paper, but doesn't really work great in real life. Selfies captured were oversaturated and lacked sharpness. The colours looked on the warmer side of things and will look quite hazy when viewed on a larger display.

Battery
The other big highlight apart from the dual rear cameras is the battery. The Capture+ packs a large non-removable 3500mAh Li-Polymer battery that promises up to 30 hours of calls over 3G and 12 hours of video streaming. Now, my experience with this has been quite middling. On an average, streaming movies or TV shows on Netflix or videos on YouTube for an hour drops the battery level down by about 10 per cent. On an average, you should get about 9-10 hours of battery life, which is decent. I found myself needing to the charge the phone only once before going to bed.

The headset supports Quick Charge over USB Type-C and it takes about an hour and a half to charge from zero to 100 per cent, which is pretty fast considering its large battery capacity. The only real problem I have is with the standby time. Considering the battery you're getting, the standby time isn't exceptional here and you'll probably get about 4 days idle time on 4G before the phoned dies on you.

Flipkart's entry in the smartphone game comes at a time when the market is quite crowded and some players like Motorola and Xiaomi are seated firmly in the budget to mid-range segment. Xiaomi, especially, has been dominating the budget to mid-range market in recent times and has invested a lot in advertising both online and offline as well. For Flipkart, the Billion Capture+ will largely ride on the e-commerce platform's name. The company will need to promote the phone a lot more especially on its website if it wants to grab people's attention.

As far as competition is concerned, the Billion Capture+ will face off against the likes of the Moto G5, Redmi Note 4 and Amazon's 10.or G to name a few. Flipkart has launched a decent first smartphone and provides a few compelling features such as good battery life, fast charging, a decent build and performance that could attract buyers. But the phone feels wanting in pretty much every other area such as design, camera and software, which makes it fall short in front of its competition, especially since most others offer near stock Android experience and have upped their camera game. Without proper marketing, the Capture+ risks getting shunned to the background.

Flipkart will probably use the Capture+ to test the waters a little and see how consumers are reacting towards it. It may come out with a another phone that will look to fix some of the shortcomings of the Capture+ based on user feedback and I would suggest waiting for that one to arrive. The Billion Capture+ just isn't compelling enough to buy right now considering what other brands have to offer today.

Our very own 'Virushka' are the flavour of the season. After hosting their first grand reception in the country on December 21 at the Taj Diplomatic Enclave in the national capital Delhi, it's now the time for the second reception in Mumbai that would see the presence of Bollywood celebrities and cricketers.
